I think my love of miniatures didn't just come from my childhood with dollhouses, but from a love of "pretending" as my Mother would call it. Pretending is the best part of miniatures for me. It's such a perfect world when we can put it all together, look at it, and move it around how we like. Pretending and playing is magical and blissful. It's good for the soul. When I was young I used to pretend I was the Lonely Doll (above) do you remember or know the books? To have all my friends be teddy bears I could go for walks with and play with? That was a heavenly idea to me. Miniatures are only one way to pretend, I think when I moved around furniture in the living room as an adult I was pretending. Pretending to sit there, how does that feel? Pretending to serve appetizers, would that be a good look? I think we pretend when we craft, or when we dance, or when we play with our children. Actually, I think we pretend a lot and I happen to think that's a beautiful thing...Sometimes we are pretending when we smile. Hmmm, I can't say I ever pretended to cry :) But maybe my Mother would have a different view of that :)
Well this morning I took some time to pretend. With my Miniature's in images and a few others, I'm pretending it's a perfect quiet day in my little cottage. It was fun. It was a little break for a bit and gets my creativity going. I thought you might like to come with me :)
My pretend day started with washing the china so that when company comes later on, everything glows...
Dusting the Mantel and putting out fresh flowers...
Looks simple and sweet and clean now....
Then it was time to clean out the cupboards and straighten up...
A little break to walk into town...be right back sweet cottage...
The town has the prettiest bakery and markets with beautiful cobblestone streets and friendly people...It's Sunny and warm out , of course...
The Bakery is lined with sweet treasures of all kinds...You can peek through the glass at the cupcakes and decide how many you need...
Maybe just one? No maybe two :) ....... it's a long walk home...
After a nice walk back, it was time to put away everything from the market....
Take the decorative eggs I found and place them under the kitchen island, after all, Easter is almost here...
Now it was time to bake for company....with fresh flour and delicious ingredients....
and of course there is a time to test my baking ....
My baking was perfect ....because don't forget, it's a prefect world :)
Now it's time to get the table set, cook dinner and get ready for company .....
To be continued ....
I hope you enjoy your own pretend day soon, it's magical no matter what you pretend...
In the meantime, I always like to leave you with a bit of cake :)
I hope your real world is just as Sunny this week!!
Many Hugs,
~ Cynthia ~
All images in this post are by me and using my miniatures, the garden doorway and the first bakery window are unknown. The lonely doll is from a my childhood book and from the lonely doll series.

I think that is why I come here because I can pretend that all this lovely beauty is my own. I feel connected to you through your work and I "pretend" that I could sit and have a cup of coffee with you and talk about "things".
I never heard of those books but I will have to look them up now. I loved to transport myself to the books I read when I was little. Do you remember The Littles? They lived in the forest and used bottle caps for washbasins, etc? They were in the Sunday papers and I would cut each one out and save it because they fascinated me. I hadn't thought of them in years...but will have to look them up now too.
If you get a chance (and have the extra time) pop by my blog (yesterdays or the day before) and you will see my 4 year old SweetCheeks pretending...she is just such a funny little thing..and her imagination is greater than any of her sibilings.
Hope your Monday was wonderful. Hugs- Diana
Boy did you stir long lost memories with that story book! I love the pictures that are in it!
Have a great week filled with lots of pretending!
Hi Cynthia,
I didn't know you made your miniatures, Wow!
I really enjoyed reading your post on getting to know you better..you are a busy Mom with a fun creative business and that's wonderful!
I can't wait to spend my days crafting and being a home maker...soon I hope within the next year.
You are very lucky girl to be able to stay at home and work your business and be a Mom.
Have a sweet day and hugs, Elizabeth

I have never stopped pretending and I hope that I never will. I believe that keeping that child within us alive is what helps to keep the creativity flowing. You my dear friend are blessed with so much talent and creativity. It's always a joy to come visit you!!
Lots of love,
Susan and Bentley

Just found your blog. I love pretending which I do everyday because I teach 4 and 5 years olds. I read the Lonely Doll series to them every year, it is my favorite. You can hear a pin drop when Edith and Little Bear are spanked because they turned on the stove to cook. The children do enjoy those books. There isn't enough of pretend now a days with children, parents are so afraid to let them play and just have fun. I am enjoying reading all your older posts. Thank you for the joy. Mickey
Just adorable!!!! there is always something about miniatures that draws me in! Thanks for a magical time!
